I went through the following process to decide on the price for the e-book:
I have sent the final version of the e-book to 10 people from various background and ask them to put a price for the contents. Most of the respondents set the price within the range of RM25-RM40 and one respondent set the price to RM15. An average price set was RM29.30.
I have looked into the competitors and compare the prices.
Competitor Number ONE: A local e-book about job seeker written by an HR consultant (Price: RM55)
Competitor Number TWO: An international author on Job Hunting e-book that offers similar free CV/Resume review (Price: USD37.00 – RM 118.40)
I have looked into my cost for researching, writing, editing and proof reading the e-book. It is impossible to determine the cost of my intangible resources but an estimate was done. I have also kept my cost low throughout the process by keeping a tight development budget
After completing all three steps, I’ve decided that RM30 price is a good balance between my hard-work and affordability of my target market. I want everyone to have this e-book hence it is important to price it so most people can afford it. While I may be getting less profit because of the cheap price, I am confident that many will buy and the big quantity will help cover my cost with some profit.
Look at it this way. This e-book will cost you RM30. It is the same price as you and your partner going for a weekend movie with some pop-corns or the price of two value meals in a fast food restaurant. Considering that this e-book is a one-time investment that can change your life, it is very affordable!
On top of that, for the first one month the book will cost only RM20. It is unbelievably cheap. The offer will ends on 12th August 2008.
No! In line with my Personal Social Responsibly campaign, I pledged for every e-book being purchased, I will donate RM1 of my profit to the charity. I plan to buy books for children in charity homes and orphanage. Hopefully, the sales of my e-book will bring light to many others.
